Learn the Art of Earth Textiles
Join us for an evening of creativity, color, and community as we explore the art of natural dyeing. In this hands on workshop, Bree will guide you through the process of transforming natural fibre textiles with earth derived color, creating one-of-a-kind pieces rich with texture and beauty.
Bree has been working with natural dyes for over a decade and has studied alongside traditional Balinese dyers, Guatemalan artisans, and textile makers in the villages of Oaxaca, Mexico. She brings together traditional techniques, as well as her intuitive approach, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
Each participant will receive their choice of either:
One silk bandana
Two cotton tea towels
We'll be working with two beautiful dye baths: a rich indigo vat and a soft botanical desert rose dye bath. Throughout the evening, you'll learn the fundamentals of natural dyeing, shibori-inspired resistance techniques, color layering, and how different natural fibers absorb and interact with dye.
Your $100 ticket includes:
A 2-hour guided workshop
Choice of one silk bandana or two cotton tea towels to dye
Access to both dye baths
All materials and instruction
Wine and light snacks
Your finished dyed pieces to take home that evening
Participants are also welcome to bring up to two personal items to throw into the dye baths. Items must be lightweight and made from natural fibers such as cotton, linen, hemp, bamboo, silk, or rayon. Think small t-shirts, pillowcases, napkins, or lightweight scarves. Please avoid towels, sweatshirts, blankets, denim, or other heavy-weight items.
Space is intentionally limited to 12 participants to create an intimate, hands on experience. Come gather, create, experiment, and leave with beautiful hand dyed textiles!
